The Longwood University Camp for Environmental Exploration came to the Longwood University Design Lab Agency looking for a logo for the camp. The clients expressed interest in a nature theme, with ideas revolving around water, land, air etc. The logo would mostly be used for t-shirts on the children attending the camp and the counselors.
Explanation
During the sketching phase of the process, I explored ideas with an overall camp feel. Sketching brought ideas around water droplets, spirit sticks, tree branches and leaves. Ultimately I decided on a leaf motif to represent the nature of the camp. From the sketches, I originally had the “L” swooping far below the “ucee” and it created balance issues when I put in the full camp name. To solve this problem, I shortened the “L” swoop drastically to provide balance with the name of the camp. I decided to keep the “L” larger than the lowercase letters to help emphasize the leaf motifs seen.
